Obituary of Marlys Mae DeVries

Marlys Mae DeVries, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all, passed away peacefully January 26th, 2021 in Bothell, WA following a long battle with dementia. Born May 29th, 1940 in Thief River Falls, MN, she attended Bethel College and the University of MN, receiving a nursing degree in 1963. In 1968, Marlys moved to Seattle and worked at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital. In 1970, she met Denis and they wed in 1973.

Marlys was a full time Mom and homemaker raising her family in Seattle and later Kirkland. She returned to work in 1989 as a teaching assistant with the Lake WA School District until 1997.

Marlys’ passions were her family, tending to her beautiful yard, attending her grandkids piano recitals and lacrosse games, and church choir. Visitors to her home were always treated with warm hospitality, a cozy hug, good food or a delicious treat, and a fresh cup of coffee. Marlys was active in choir at Seattle’s 1st Baptist Church, Seattle’s 1st Free Methodist Church, Bellevue’s Westminster Chapel and Bellevue Presbyterian Church.

Marlys was a joy to be around. Graced with an infectious laugh and sense of humor; her cheerfulness and sweet nature endeared her to all. Marlys will be remembered for her devotion to family, generosity, love of music, and above all, her love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Marlys is survived by husband Denis; sons Eric (Heidi), and Peter; grandchildren Levi and Paige; and brothers Jim Danielson and Merle Danielson.
