Obituary of Elsie Mae Kinsella

We sadly announce the death of Elsie Mae Kinsella on September 14th, 2023. She's the first of her generation in the family to leave us. Mae was a very special, caring, generous, and loving mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend to many. Family was most important to Mae. She left this life Spetember 14th to join her son, Dino, and parents who preceded her. She was born February 23rd, 1938, in Seattle, Washington, the oldest child of Ernie and Patti Varnum and mother of two sons, Dino and Tony Ullakko. She was raised in Bremerton, Washington, graduating from Bremerton High School in 1956, and moved to the Seattle area where she attended Burnley Art School.

Mae was a talented artist and the "leader of the band" in the family and being with her was always a joy. Time with family filled her heart with love. Her home was always decorated beautifully with her amazing talents. She was always a lovely classy dresser. 

She retired from Boeing as a facilty manager, working there from 1968 to 1995. She also worked at John L. Scott as a real estate agent, from 1997 t0 2015, retiring from this second career. She enjoyed traveling to Thailand, Japan, Italy, Cabo, Ireland, and England, as well as numerous places in the U.S.

Mae leaves her son, Tony Ullakko (Dawn) of Auburn, 2 granddaughters Megan Anderson (Charlie) and Amy Ashford (Rob Schnieder) and three great-grandchildren Olivia, Birdie, and Danny Ashford (Aspen) and two great-great-grandchildren, Piper and Waylon. Also she will be greatly missed by siblings Gail Dycus (Dick) and Ernie Varnum (Kathy).

Her memorial service will be October 27th, 12:00 noon at Northwest Church, 34800 21st Ave. SW, Federal Way, reception to follow. The light of our lives dimmed with the loss of our wonderful Mae.
