Obituary of Joan Marguerite Jarvis

Joan Marguerite Jarvis, loving mother, wife, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully near her residence on Tapps Island, WA on July 20th, 2023 after a long battle with cancer.

Joan was born on April 15th, 1942 to George and Gilda Zink in New Rockford, ND. After Joan graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1960, she pursued a degree at Western Washington University, majoring in Music, with a minor in Education. While in college, she earned the title of clarinet state champ.

After graduation, Joan began her teaching career. She taught elementary students throughout her career and was able to retire in 1999.

High school sweethearts, Joan and Ed rekindled their flame in college and married in 1964, and were blessed with 3 children, Janelle, Jami and Jeremy. With the family she enjoyed weekend ski trips, first chaperoning ski club with Ed at Crystal Mountain, then later family visits to White Pass. She stayed active through engaging in various sports including coed softball with Ed, soccer, bowling and volleyball.

While retired, Joan had time to pursue her love of music through playing clarinet for a volunteer band and performing for various Veteran’s ceremonies and other occasions. She was very generous with her donations to Veterans and was very kind and giving. She also enjoyed singing in the church choir with Ed, time for leisure golf with the ladies of Tapps Island, playing the piano and helping to care for her grandchildren.

Joan was predeceased by her mother and father, Gilda and George Zink. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ed Jarvis; her brother, Corky Zink; her 3 children, Janelle Bare, Jami Cedras, Jeremy (Rita) Jarvis; and her 8 grandchildren, Danica, Courtney, Peyton, Alexandria, Matilda, Josephine, Luke and Logan.

A Celebration of Life will be held in her honor at the Jarvis Tapps Island Home on Saturday, September 2nd at 1:00pm.
