I remember Bob so fondly. I came to Seattle University with the charge of trying to start a writing-across-the-curriculum program and a writing center. Bob was one of my strongest allies and advocates supporting writing and communication in every possible way. Through Bob's cheerful effort, writing center consultants began working with Engineering Design Teams to help them compose and revise drafts of their design proposals and final project reports. This collaboration between engineering faculty, engineering students, and the writing center became a model for our work with other departments. With Bob's help we developed rubrics to assess engineering reports, and these rubrics became the prototype for similar senior projects across the university. Bob's optimistic spirit touched everything he did. It is with deep sadness that we say goodbye to our friend Bob.

I'll always remember Bob as a beloved friend and trusted colleague. His presence added greatly to my life both personally and professionally. Recruiting Bob to come to SU as our department chair was one of the best decisions that I was ever part of. He enhanced what we were were doing and extended our activities in directions previously not thought of. It was through his efforts that Seattle University developed one of the earliest (and I think best) engineering design programs in the country.
On a personal note, I'll always fondly remember the many lunches Bob and I shared. It was through these that we solved not only the problems of the department but those of the world. Oh, and I can't forget a wonderful day we spent bike riding around Guemes Island. I can only wish that I had been able to join him on one of his wonderful canoe trips. Paul Neudorfer

Bob was my mentor when I joined SU 30 years ago. He helped me a lot with surviving my first few years of teaching. He was very generous with his time. Bob always had many ideas to share in our faculty meetings. He always looked out for our students and our department. Bob will be greatly missed. My deepest sympathy to Bob’s family.

Bob and I both came to Seattle from the Midwest and the University of Illinois. Our frequent chats on the lower mall focused on our good fortune to have secured positions that placed a premium on student learning. His passing is a shock. I will miss him greatly.

Bob and my paths crossed on campus every so often, and we always stopped to talk, even if just to say hi. He was always kind and warm. I always knew I had a friend in the College of Science and Engineering. My thoughts are with his family, and my memories of him will live on.

In Memory of Bob
I was shocked and deeply saddened to learn about the death of Bob, my colleague and great mentor. I clearly remember that after the emeriti lunch of 2019, Bob and his wife and I walked together out of SU campus, and he was so full of vigor and cheerful. Life is so unpredictable!
I went to SU for an interview in June 1987. Upon offering me the job, Bob (ECE Department chair at the time) told me that there were many ABDs (All but Dissertation) and advised me to obtain my PhD and then come to SU to teach. I came to SU in later December 1987 and started to teach on January 3, 1988. Bob and the other department colleagues came to my office to tutor and offer help to me all the time. Without Bob’s encouragement and tutoring, it was impossible for me to have a jump start at SU and later be tenured and promoted to associate professor and then professor. I am grateful to Bob!
Bob’s care for students was an inspiration for me and I have worked hard to follow his steps. I miss his kind heart and great smile.
Warmest regards to Bob’s family,

I worked with Bob in the 1970s at Oakland University in the development of our pre engineering program for inner city high school students. Bob was mission-driven in his approach to education. He was one of the most innovative educators I have known, motivating students to learn the mathematics underpinning engineering thru discovery and experimentation. Our profession has lost a leader with his passing.

My prayers are with all in the Heeran family as you grieve this loss. Bob and I became friends through a program I ran at Seattle University, called "Colleagues in Jesuit Education", and I was always so thankful for his warmth, humor, and enthusiasm. When we ran into each other he always greeted me with a smile and he took a genuine interest in how we were trying to be a mission-centered university and encouraged me in my efforts, leading to many great conversations! I so appreciated his support and colleagueship. In gratitude for Bob, Joe

Hey Stephanie, Jon, and Katy,
I'm so sorry for your loss--your dad's obituary was a beautiful tribute to him. Thanks for letting me know. I have the fondest recollections of you babysitting my 4 kids over the years and each of you taking care of the house at some time each summer. Your dad would walk across from Alva and we'd chat as he would check out my flowers and garden, summer after summer. He took such pride in you three and loved the fact that his Katy was a redhead. ;) Although many years have passed, I will always have the fondest memories of him, your mom, and you kids! But Grandkids?! How time flies! xoxo Peggy

Lots of love and hugs to you and the family,

I wanted to send my sympathies to you and your family.
Bob was a very good friend of mine at EHS, and was a terrific all around guy. If I remember correctly, I think Bob was president of our senior class, and I was the V.P. So I knew him very well. We had a lot of classes together. He was definitely well liked by everyone in our class.
Sorry to hear the news, but I'm sure you and your family will have many good thoughts and memories about a great guy.
Best wishes,
Bill Moorman, EHS '56

I remember your father from science classes at EHS and choir. A tall, blond friendly guy. I was a “bussed in “ Moro girl who had limited contact with the “town kids” but have found memories of my EHS classmates. I was well prepared for my nursing school education. Thank you for taking the time to reach out to the people your father knew. We so need people who honor and care deeply about family and especially the elderly among us. May God comfort you and yours in the days ahead.

My sincere condolences to Bob's family.
Dr. BOB, as we called him on our ski bus, was a welcome rider, and an earlier student, on the bus for many years. As the "Bus Mom" I always took great pleasure in his sense of humor.
