Obituary of Dee Ann Whitworth

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           Dee Ann Ricks Whitworth was born on  May 29, 1934 and passed away at her daughters home on February 8, 2021. Dee Ann, born in Rexburg, Idaho to Preston Hibbard Ricks and Mary Luella Cherry, was the youngest of three children.

 

Dee spent her early years in Rexburg surrounded by family. At the age of 6 her father took a job in the Shipyards and they moved to Tacoma. She attended Fern Hill Elementary, Stewart Junior High and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1952. After two years of attending Brigham Young University, Dee served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Great Britain. Upon her return in 1959 she married Sherman Whitworth on June 10 in the Idaho Falls Temple. Sherman and Dee met while he was serving in the Air Force at McCord Air Force Base.

 

Sherman, Dee’s long-time caregiver, passed away on August 27, 2020 after a battle with Leukemia, there wasn’t a day that didn’t go by that he wasn’t missed by his eternal companion of 61 years.

Dee loved the arts, she participated and directed many stage productions through the years. She loved to teach the youth at church and their home was always a place where young adults could be found.

A lifelong learner and avid reader Dee graduated from Brigham Young University in 1997. An active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Dee was very honored to be a pioneer descendent.

Dee loved to travel and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Dee is survived by; daughters, Bonnie (Ed) Meier; Carol Whitworth; son Terry (Danielle); 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by both her parents; husband Sherman, brother Preston Robert (Jean) Ricks, sister Betty Ruth Ricks; and son Glenn.

 

A funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 512 Valley Avenue East, Sumner, Washington.
