Obituary of Mitsuye Shigio

Mitsi was born on Dec. 1, 1916 and passed away peacefully on July 5, 2010. Mitsi and her husband, Tom, were long time farmers in the Sumner area. She is survived by son, Jim (Karen) Shigio, daughter, Jeanette (Dave) Hirano, grandchildren, Kristin Hirano, Stephanie Hirano, Joel (LeeAnn) Klippert and their children, Gabby and Raygun, brother-in-law, Frank Shigio, sisters-in-law, Mary Kosugi and Chiz Shigio and numerous nieces and nephews. Mitsi was preceded in death by her brothers, Tok and Naruo Hirotaka and sisters, Kik Hirotaka and Kaz Matsuoka. Our heartfelt thanks to nephews, Gary (Margie) and Robert (Wendy) Hirotaka, Ty (Jan) Matsuoka and niece, Rulee (Duane) Stallmann for their special visits to Mitsi while she resided at Foothills. Those visits brought her such great joy. We want to express our greatest gratitude to Jeff and Wendy Mitchell and the staff at Foothills for the 4 1/2 years of wonderful care Mitsi received while with them. A private family graveside service will be held at the Sumner Cemetery on July 17 at 10:30 a.m. followed by a celebration of Mitsi's life for friends and family on July 17 from 12:00 - 2:30 p.m. at the Tacoma Buddhist Temple, 1717 South Fawcett, Tacoma, 98402 Donations may be made to the Tacoma Buddhist Temple or the charity of your choice.
