Obituary of Asmund Kari Knutzen

Asmund Kari Knutzen, 89, of Covington, Washington passed away Friday, June 7th, peacefully in his home with his wife by his side. Asmund was born in Kristiansund N., Norway, August 11, 1929. During his youth he enjoyed boating, fishing and cross country skiing. In 1940, the city of Kristiansund was destroyed by German forces. After the war, the people of Kristiansund were determined to rebuild. Asmund spent several years working construction helping to rebuild his home town. In 1954 Asmund married Lisbeth Karin Roll. Asmund and Lisbeth were baptized members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints while living in Kristiansund. In 1964 they immigrated to the United States, moving to Salt Lake City, Utah, to be by other members of the church and to be sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple. Eventually they settled in the Seattle, Washington area where they raised their 4 children. Asmund was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In 1992 he and Lisbeth were called to serve in the Stockholm, Sweden, Temple Mission. Asmund traveled the world at a young age as a Merchant Marine and working on cruise ships as a diesel mechanic. When he moved to Washington he eventually worked for, and retired from, The Boeing Company as an NC Machinist working in the Military Airplane Facilities Department. Asmund is preceded in death by his father Egil Bjarne Knutzen and his mother Ruth Anna Joo. He is survived by his wife, Lisbeth Karin Knutzen, and their 4 children; Ann Karin (Les) Hewitt, Egil (Karen) Knutzen, Kristin (Doug) Black, and Erik (Melissa) Knutzen. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren who love him dearly. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 18th, at 11:00 am at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints ward building at 26106 164th Ave SE, Covington, Wa. The Interment will be at the Hillcrest Burial Park, 1005 Reiten Road, Kent, Wa.
