Obituary of Roy T. Berrens

Roy Tower Berrens Sept. 27, 1930 -May 27, 2010. Roy was born to Susie Belle Tower and James W. Berrens September 27, 1930 in Tacoma, Washington. He attended Holy Rosary and Bellarmine Preparatory Schools. Roy served in the United States Air Force as an airplane mechanic from 1949 to 1952, and then moved to Sumner, Washington to start his general contracting business. In August 1955, Roy married his devoted wife of 53 years, Carol Gleason Berrens (deceased). Together, Roy and Carol built their life and family in the Sumner Valley. Roy was a lover of antique cars, taking tremendous pride in his 1916 White. Roy was a member of the McChord Air Rescue Unit and the Seattle-Tacoma Horseless Carriage Club of America. Roy was also well known for his gift of wheelwright and old wagon and buggy restoration. Roy's love of mules and draft horses led him to over 50 years of proud, dedicated service to the Puyallup Fair, working in the Draft Horse Barn. Roy is survived by daughter Kathy, granddaughter Meghan, son Jeff, grandson Jacob, brothers Robert and David (Bonita) Berrens, and sister Ella Koch. A funeral mass will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, 2010 at St. Andrews Parish in Sumner. Interment will follow at Sumner Cemetery. Instead of flowers, memorials may be made to the Puyallup Fair Scholarship Foundation in honor of Roy Berrens. Arrangements by Curnow Funeral Home.
