Obituary of Catherine Joan Evans

Born on March 28, 1955 in Ritzville, WA to Warren and Wilma Franklin, died on March 30, 2019 in Sumner, WA. Cathy and her older brothers Gordy and Bob were raised in the Camas/Vancouver area where she spent lots of time on her uncle’s farm and with her Thompson cousins. She loved her horse Callie. Cathy graduated from Evergreen High School and went on to spend 2 ½ years at Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho where she made friendships that lasted through the years. After leaving NNC, she came home to pursue dental hygiene. Once back at home, she crossed paths again with Lee. Fortunately for him, they started a 6-week courtship before becoming engaged and then married 6 weeks later. Their 42-year marriage was a beautiful picture of living out their vows and a legacy and example for their children to look up to. Cathy was a wonderful mother to Melanie and Mike and the family had the opportunity to live in Oak Harbor, WA while stationed in the Navy, Dallas, TX and Rochester, NY before Lee’s career ultimately brought them back to Washington state. Cathy spent 20 years at Hansen, Hansen, and Johnson Architecture and Construction firm as their office manager and remained friends with many of her coworkers. Cathy was an amazing woman of God and came from a strong Christian heritage. She was everything a faithful servant should be. She was a light that always shone bright wherever she went. She discovered what true freedom in Christ meant and she exemplified it so very well. She was beloved by everyone who knew her and will be sorely missed by all. The people of Puyallup Nazarene Church and the Thunder in the Valley motorcycle riding club are her and Lee’s second family. Cathy is survived by husband Lee Evans of Sumner, daughter Melanie (Brian) Morton of Grandview; son Michael (Noelani) Evans of University Place; also grandchildren Joseph, Lily, Cody, Ruben, Israel, and soon to be Mayra Morton and Serenity, Beckett, Isla, and Knox Evans; her brothers Gordon (Linda) Franklin and Jagadeesh (Shanta) Franklin; sister-in-law Elizabeth Jones and nieces Lori (Josh) Larsen, Hannah (Jonathan) Villegas, Abigail, and Katelyn Jones. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson Jack Evans. A Memorial Service will be held 1 pm Saturday April 13, 2019 at Puyallup Nazarene Church, 1026 7th Ave SW, Puyallup, WA 98371
