Obituary of Susan Harvey Manger

Susan Harvey Manger, born August 9, 1944 in Astoria, Oregon, passed away on Thursday, March 7, 2019, after a battle with pneumonia. Susan was best known for her vivacious spirit and her zest for education. A lifelong teacher, Susan spent a number of years teaching at Annie Wright School in Tacoma, Washington. She was dedicated to her students and consistently encouraged them to “Go for the Gusto” and to dream big. Susan was also incredibly devoted to her family. She was a mother who raised her kids with strength, determination, and love. Susan was a wife who loved her husband, Dave, with all of her heart. She loved her dogs, horses, hiking, and being in the great outdoors. Susan’s heritage meant the world to her and she was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. Edward Harvey, and her sister Anne Harvey Tangvald. Susan is survived by her husband of thirty years, David Manger, their children Jodi (Alden) Erickson, Eric (Jaime) Gustavson, Kirsten (Steve) Lindgren, and Doug (Statia) Manger. Susan is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Melissa (15), Landon (12), Kaia (9), Fred (7), Philo (5), Lauren (26) and Brian (23). A memorial service for Susan will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at 1:30 pm at Bethany Lutheran Church, 26418 Mountain Highway, Spanaway, WA 98387. In lieu of flowers, please consider going for a walk in the woods and then donating to Annie Wright Schools, Charles Wright Academy or Bethany Lutheran Church. Tell them you want to help a kid that needs a boost. Susan always loved giving children opportunity.
