Obituary of August George Bachmeier

August was born June 19, 1931 in Orrin, North Dakota to George Bachmeier and Theresa (Kuntz). He married Caroline (Selzler) in 1953. He farmed until 1963 when he moved his family to Renton Washington. He took a machinist correspondence course and then attended a trade school in Renton. He worked for BeBe Brothers making hoists. After he moved his family to Kent, he worked as a machinist for Kent Engineering and later went to work for General Electric. During his career with G.E. he traveled to many locations (Alaska, California, New Jersey) to work on the big power turbines. He retired from GE at the age of 58 and started Bachmeier Machine. In 1986 he and Caroline bought some land in Sumner and built a house, garage, and machine shop. He had a large collection of tractors and loved to collect tools and “trashures”. He was still active in his machine shop and enjoyed lunches out with friends. He loved “making company” any time and all the time. He was proud of his family and delighted in all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He had time for everyone and always made them feel special. We will miss his happy, positive, tender-hearted nature and the twinkle in his bright blue eyes. He is survived by his wife Caroline and 6 children: Mary Hill (Steve), Ralph Bachmeier (Elaine), Julieann Zettel, Gary Bachmeier (Connie Ellis), Patty Carr (Michael), Douglas, and daughter-in-law Gina Bachmeier, 14 grandchildren, and 14 great-grand children. He is preceded in death by his mother, father, sisters Betty Schneider, Mary Held, Cecilia Heilman and infant brother Adam. He is survived by his sisters Ann Selzler of Harvey, Phyllis Bickler of Monroe Washington, Helen Wienecke of Oregon, Carol Dresser of Tenn., and brother Nick Bachmeier of Rugby North Dakota. A Viewing will be held Thursday, Decmeber 13, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Saints Cosmas & Damian Catholic Church, 213 Leber St NW, Orting, WA 98360.
