Obituary of Robert Ivar Carlson

Robert Ivar Carlson Robert Carlson passed away at home in Federal Way, Washington on January 1, 2008 surrounded by his wife and family. He was born on November 30, 1922 in Indianapolis, Indiana and spent his childhood with his family in Europe. He was graduated from Culver Military Academy in 1940 and Purdue University with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering in 1944. Immediately after graduation he was employed by Chrysler Corporation and was assigned as a project engineer in Research and Development for the Manhattan Project. After working for various companies in the Detroit area he moved to Washington State to work for the Boeing Company. He met and married his wife, Joyce, and together they raised four children. He was employed by Boeing in various engineering positions and retired from the company after 31 years. He had a busy life away from work with his wife and family and their activities. He was most proud of his family and their accomplishments. He enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing, playing bridge and cribbage. After his retirement he and his wife took many travels in their RV and went on many cruises. He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of the home; son, John Carlson (Anne), Seattle, WA; daughters Lisa Carlson, Tacoma, WA; Lynn Magnuson (Keith), Baker City, OR; Julie Baker (John), Tacoma, WA. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, S.I. and Edith Carlson and brother Philip Carlson. Private interment was at Gethsemane Cemetery, Federal Way, WA. Remembrances may be made to the Friends of the Hylebos, Franciscan Hospice at University Place or the charity of your choice. The family would like to thank Dr. James Fry, the Franciscan Hospice staff, and the caregivers who helped him in his last months.
