Obituary of Mary Sophie Stril

Mary Sophie Stril passed away peacefully, Friday, February 17, 2012, at her home in Puyallup. Born March 26, 1924, in Tacoma Washington, she was the daughter of John and Anna Ostofichuk. She graduated from Puyallup High School in 1942 and worked as a telephone operator in Seattle. She married a dashing, motorcycle riding Marine, Julian D Strilzuck (later shortened to Stril), on August 24, 1946. They moved to the family home near Alderton and lived there the rest of their lives, raising 6 children, farming raspberries and always a huge garden or two. In later years, Mary worked in the Food Service Department of the Sumner School District in various capacities. She was an accomplished seamstress, excellent cook, and loved her crosswords puzzles (doing most in ink). Mary is survived by her sons, Gary (Marsha) Stril, Mark A. Stril, and daughters Nickie (Mike) Lesh and Valerie (Norm) Behling, grandchildren Greg(Lindsey) Stril, Athena(Darrin)Rayner, Jessica Lesh, Rebecca Lesh, Isabelle Lesh, Eric (Keeley) Behling, and Krista Behling, great granddaughters Madison Rayner, and Tenley Stril, and sister, Luba (Don) Faris. Mary was predeceased by her husband Julian, sons Julian John and Dave Wayne. The family would like to send special thanks to the Group Health doctors, nurses and hospice workers who took such great care of our dear mother. Specifically, Dr. Klaassen, (who will have to find another date for his Friday nights), as well as visiting Nurses Robyn, Anne Marie, and aid Terri. Funeral arrangements handled through Curnow Funeral Home of Sumner. Graveside service will be held at 10 am, Saturday March 3rd at Woodbine Cemetery, in Puyallup, followed by a joint memorial service at 11 am at Christ Episcopal Church in Puyallup for both Mary, and her son Dave Wayne Stril, who passed away December 7, 2011. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Neurology Tumor Fund at the University of Washington Medical Center, or your local food bank.
