Obituary of Gene Harold Yost

Gene Yost died at his home in Kent March 25th. Born in Pitcher Oklahoma September 25th 1952, Gene and his mother Violet moved to Parkland to be closer to his older sister Dee after his father’s death. Gene attended Keithley Junior High. Gene and his friends would take the bus downtown for school clothes shopping. Gene was fond of his yellow skip wide-wale cords and his two tone Beatle boots. Gene outgrew that phase and went on to be a standout football player for the first graduating class of Washington High School in 1971. Gene played football for two years at Olympic College before transferring to Central Washington University where he graduated. As a young man, Gene worked for Gildersleeve Logging near Ketchikan Alaska before a career as a shrimp fisherman in Kodiak and later a king crab fisherman in the Bering Sea. He returned to Tacoma, got married and started a family in their home in Bonney Lake. Gene worked for Associated Grocers for many years before leaving to pursue a sales career at Proctor Sales he then moved on to be an outside sales representative for Harrington Plastics. Gene enjoyed spending time watching Fox News, football and golf, along with listening to Beatles, Billy Joel, Johnny Cash and Lyle Lovett. He was faithful attendee of his daughter’s volleyball games where you could always spot him in his pink and purple mc hammer pants. His pride and joy was spending time with his mother, daughters and most of all his grandchildren. Gene was preceded in death by his father Harold, and older brother Harold Jr. Gene is survived by his mother Violet, daughters Sydney, Ashley, and Danai and their mother Holly grandchildren Madalynn, Isabelle and Wyatt. All of western Washington. Gene is also survived by his sisters Dee Widger, Vel Klatt and their families. Gene leaves many lifelong friends that treasure the memories of the good times they had. A funeral service will be held at Bethany Lutheran Chruch 26418 Mountain Highway East Spanaway, WA 98387 on Thursday March 31st 2011 at 1pm with a reception to follow. Interment will be at Bethany Cemetery. Please make a donation in his name to Seattle Children’s Hospital.
