Obituary of Larry Joseph Flamoe

Larry Joseph Flamoe On the morning of March 1st, Larry passed away at home, surrounded by his family, after a battle with Parkinson's disease. He was 72. Larry was born on June 24, 1938 in Lewiston, Idaho to parents Leonard and Annabelle. He spent his early childhood in Genesee, Idaho but moved to Seattle as a young boy. Larry graduated from Highline High School in 1956 and went on to Pacific Lutheran University where he earned his bachelor's degree. In 1962, Larry received his commission from Officer Training School at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas. He spent 8 years active duty as a navigator, earning the Air Medal while flying combat missions in Southeast Asia. He then finished off his 22 years of military service in the Washington Air National Guard, where he continued his love of flying in KC 135's and F101's. On December 29, 1962 Larry married his college sweetheart, Karen. Larry and Karen built a home in Browns Point where they raised their family. He was very active coaching his kids' sports teams. He also worked for many years running his own business selling fasteners. Larry loved the family cabin in Longbranch and spent 45 summers there with family and friends. He also was involved for many years with Bible Study Fellowship and was active as a Group Leader. Larry was a longtime member of Marine View Presbyterian Church. Larry was always very proud of his kids and grandkids, and loved to be involved in their activities - even until the end. Larry was preceded in death by his father Len, and his mother Ann. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Karen, their three children, Mike (Kelley), Chelle (Mark), and Mark (Sabrina), and seven grandchildren, Seth and Walter Flamoe, Bryce, Marissa and Karsten Miller, and River and Eli Flamoe. Larry will always be remembered by his quiet, loving and gentle demeanor toward all who knew him. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 25th, 2011 at 2pm at Marine View Presbyterian, located at 8469 Eastside Drive NE in Tacoma.
