Obituary of Roy D. Herting

Roy D. Herting Passed away at his home in Fife Heights, Feb. 22, 2011, at the age of 85. Born in Madison, S.D. to John and Bessie Herting, the youngest of seven siblings. He moved from S.D. at the age of 11 and graduated from Fife High School in 1943. He immediately joined the Marine Corps and was a veteran of the WWII Pacific Theatre. He started working in hardware, first at Andre's in Fife and then as a member of the Puyallup Valley business community working with his sister, Glee, and brother-in-law, Art Stephens, at Puyallup Valley Hardware. He was the owner of the store from 1978 to 1995 when he closed it. He spent his retirement grooming and riding his horses and having coffee at the Poodle Dog every day with his "coffee buddies." Roy is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sandra (Keightley) Herting, and collectively their five children, Thomas (Ellen) Herting of Amarillo, TX; Jerald (Stephanie) Herting of Kirkland, WA; Brad (Karen) Robinson of Puyallup, WA; Kelli Robinson-Barabba of Tacoma, WA, and Holly (Ricci) Beyers of Lee's Summit, MO; his half-brother, Richard (Judy) Herting of Sioux Falls, S.D. also survives him and eight grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his siblings, Glen, Gladys, Grace, Glee, Gale and Beulah. A friends and family reception in celebration of Roy's life will be held on Saturday, March 5, at 11AM at the Fife Community Center.
