Obituary of Dell Odman

Dell Odman, 92, passed away on December 19, 2010 in Tacoma, Washington. He will greatly be missed by his family, friends and the community as a whole. Dell led a colorful and diverse life. He truly was a renaissance man who excelled in educational, technical, mechanical and community activities. His passion for the outdoors could be noted in his love of ranching, fishing, hunting and hiking. But nothing could compare with his love and respect for family and his Savior Jesus Christ. His faith and devotion were the primary emphasis in all aspects of his life. Although a tremendous entrepreneur, he never lost focus on deeper values and remained an ethical man of courageous faith and humility. He established his successful business, Dell’s Copy Shop, in Tacoma and was an active member of Tacoma Kiwanis and Christian Businessmen’s Association. He was born to Amelia (Johnson) and Oscar Odman on March 30, 1918 in Alpha, North Dakota. He graduated from Selah High School in 1937 and attended Seattle Pacific College. Dell is preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 50 years, Joy Odman (Hayes), and six brothers and sisters (Arnold Odman, Irving Odman, Evelyn Nelson, Doris Froderberg, Glen Odman and Ralph Odman). Dell is survived by Helen, his wife of the past 20 years. From his first marriage he is survived by his three children: Sandra Koehn (Don), Janet MacDicken (Jim) and Robert Odman (Marianne), seven grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren. Dell is also survived by Helen’s children: Bob Davis (Joyce), Esther Davis, Bill Davis (deceased) (Megan), four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Weatherly Inn of Kent and a special thanks to the Franciscan Hospice House staff in Tacoma for their care during Dell’s final days. A funeral service will be held at Bethany Baptist Church, 713 South Hill Park Drive, Puyallup, WA 98373 on January 8, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery.
