Joyce E. Loser Swope, 89, of Redmond, Washington, passed away January 28, 2023, surrounded by family. She was the daughter of the late Theodore C. and Ruth B. Naftzinger Loser and was married for almost 64 years to Richard H. Swope.
Joyce was born and raised in Jonestown, Pennsylvania, and was at the top of her high school class. She attended nursing school at the University of Pennsylvania and was working as a registered nurse when a colleague introduced Joyce to her kid brother. They were married six months later.
Joyce obtained a BS in Health Science from California State University, Northridge in 1973 and an MS in Health Sciences in 1982 from Chapman University (located in California), the latter while working full time. She worked for the Pierce County Health Department and the Washington State Health Department in health administration and IT support.
Joyce enjoyed many activities over the years: playing softball and tennis, working on jigsaw puzzles, playing solitaire and sudoku, camping and backpacking, skiing with family and friends, watching college football, traveling the world with her husband, and eating chocolate.
Joyce was predeceased by her brother, Theodore C. Loser, Jr and her sister E. Carolyn Bachman. Besides her husband, she is survived by their children, Richard (Rick) H. Swope, Jr. of Portland, Oregon, and Kristi L. Swope, of Livermore, California.
