Obituary of Robert Lawrence Ford

The Rev. Robert Lawrence Ford

Larry was born Nov 18, 1937 in St. Louis to Samuel and Margaret Ford, joining his older siblings Sam Jr. and Frances, who predeceased him, and died on April 24, 2023.

He grew up in Webster Groves, MO, a proud graduate of WGHS who rarely missed a class reunion, and went on to study Economics and Philosophy at the University of Missouri and Washington University, St. Louis. After a several years’ career in the shoe business, in the mid 60’s he answered a call to the ministry and graduated in 1968 with a Master of Divinity from Berkeley Divinity School at Yale.
Over Christmas break 1966, Larry met Peggy on a blind date arranged by his cousin. They quickly married and remained so for over 55 years.

Larry served Episcopal congregations in Oklahoma, Missouri, Ohio and Washington State.
Following his retirement from the ministry, Larry joined forces with Peggy to open a health insurance agency.
In addition to Peggy, he is survived by his sons and their wives Rob and Heather, and Dave and Betsy; by his 5 grandchildren Andy, Helena, Estelle, Kyle and Katy, all of Seattle; and by nieces and nephews Samantha, Mary, John, and Sam III.
A man of varied interests, Larry loved his church, his family and friends, RVing (especially at Yellowstone and on the Oregon Coast), guitar playing, flying, boating and fishing (though he rarely caught anything), prowling in hardware stores, fixing stuff, computers, road trips, and his past and present Airedale Terriers.

Memorial service will be held at Saint Margaret’s Episcopal Church, 4228 Factoria Blvd SE, Bellevue, at 1:00 on Saturday, June 17th.
In lieu of flowers, Larry would have appreciated a gift in his memory to Episcopal Relief & Development for Ukraine; Saint Margaret’s Episcopal Church Endowment Fund; Northwest Airedale Terrier Rescue, Salem OR; or a charity of your choice.
