Obituary of Betty Jean Wendt

Betty Jean Wendt (Long)

Betty was born on October 30, 1945 in Puyallup, Washington and received her angel wings on January 18, 2023 in Milton, Wa. Beloved Mom, Grandma, Daughter, Niece, and Cousin, she passed away peacefully at her home of 56 years with her children and dog, Henry, by her side. Betty Graduated from Puyallup High school in 1963 and then received her Beautician's License from Mr. Lee’s Beauty School. In the 1990’s she attended paralegal studies at Highline Community College. Betty enjoyed cutting hair throughout her lifetime even though she would go on to have several other careers. In 1965 she married high school sweetheart Douglas Wendt and together they had “three beautiful children.” Betty cherished being a mother above all else. Additionally, she loved her church parish at St. Martin of Tours, volunteering at the food bank, her many friends, cooking and baking for others, traveling, boating, family gatherings, and telling stories. Betty spent the last chapter of her career as a clerk in the pathology department at Good Samaritan hospital. However, it was her job as Super Host for the Puyallup Fair Hobby Hall that was her favorite job of all. Hospitality was certainly Betty’s passion and she loved to host parties, celebrate, and share special recipes. She was so happy to be home during her last, earth-side week that she had a glow about her - focusing on her friends and family, planning the dinner menus and reminding us all to enjoy refreshments. Betty once stayed in Florida during a hurricane and cooked meals for all the residents of her friend’s condominiums to feed them during the crisis. Despite the storm, pictures show Betty smiling proudly over a barbecue. She had a fearless zest for life and steadfast trust in God. A life-long socialite, Betty was always active in many clubs, groups, and enjoyed learning about people’s lives. ‘Betty is a friend to all’ we have heard, witnessed, and felt.  She set an incredible example for hope and optimism, she had a fun sense of adventure, a cheeky sense of humor, was meticulous, generous, and self-proclaimed to be driven by her “heart.” Betty was a wonderful mother and homemaker, and everyone knew she was most grateful for her family. Betty is preceded in death by her loving parents, Conrad and Josephine Long; Douglas Wendt; Aunts Sally McGoff and Annie Throsette, and Uncle Ed Remshe. She is survived by children Eric, Andrea, and Amanda and their spouses; Grandchildren Storm, Phoenix, Jaida Rose, Delilah, and Charlotte; her dachshund Henry; Cousin Larry McGoff and spouse.
