Obituary of Joseph L Hamel
Joseph L. Hamel, 78, went home to the Lord on Saturday, July 23, 2022. He was born in Gardner, MA, in 1943 and graduated from Fitchburg State University in 1967, and he served as a volunteer Fire Fighter in Gardner. Joe lived in the Puyallup area since he returned from the Vietnam War. Joe served in the Army and later in the Air Force Reserves, and he also served as commander for Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 2224. He retired from the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in 2006 and participated with the Rotary Club of Parkland Spanaway since retirement. He was a member of Celebration Church with his wife, Cathy. They volunteered for 14 years with Family Life’s Weekend to Remember retreats. Joe earned a bachelor of theology degree from INSTE in 1999. He enjoyed word games, playing cribbage, writing poetry, and was an avid Red Sox fan. He is preceded in death by his brothers Robert and John Paul. Survivors include his wife, Cathy Hamel; children, Scott, Courtney, Brian, Michael, Tia, and Cassandra; sister, Diane; brothers, Ronald, David, Thomas, and Roland; 16 grandchildren; and many
nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held at 10:01 AM on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at Celebration Church, 13603 86th Ave E, Puyallup, WA 98373.
