Obituary of Barbara Bateman

March 16, 1936 - June 9th, 2022

Sumner, Washington - Barbara Bateman, 86, passed away peacefully at home on June 9, 2022 after a battle with cancer.  She is survived by her three sons, Marlyn Bateman (Kari), Doug Bateman (Lori), and Kerry Bateman (Jennifer). She is also survived by her nine grandchildren, Spencer, Kristy, Tucker, Bryce, Hunter, Michael, Neil, Beau, and Katie, as well as eight great-granddaughters. Barbara lived in Sumner, Washington and was a graduate of Sumner High School, class of 54. She was married for 65 years to George Bateman before his passing in July of 2021. Barbara was a caring and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to her family and was always supporting her family in whatever they were doing. She was also an animal lover, often spoiling the family pets and any animals that crossed her path. Barbara worked for over 20 years as a paraeducator in the Sumner School District, serving students at Maple Lawn Elementary, Bonney Lake Elementary, and Emerald Hills Elementary; she showed her love for others through her actions and found a passion working with children. Barbara and her husband traveled all over the world, many times with their friends Bobbi and Reid Williamson, creating many memories that they all held dear. Barbara and George treasured all of their holidays with their grandchildren. The grandchildren especially hold dear their yearly trips to Ocean Shores and the time they got to spend with their grandparents. A celebration of life will be held for both George and Barbara on July 31, 2022 at 2:00pm at Doug and Lori Bateman’s house. Having created such a wonderful life together, we would like to remember them together.
