Obituary of Dorothy Monica Porter

Dorothy Monica Porter

10-20-44 to 11-6-21

Dorothy finished her long and giving life with her family on November 6, 2021

She was born to Edward and Margaret Costello in Vancouver,  WA. Moving to Fife at a young age, she grew up in the Fife valley with seven siblings on the family farm. Marrying and raising a family in Puyallup, Dorothy spent much of her career in nursing, working at Rainier State School, Orting Soldiers Home and was part of the hospice team at Good Samaritan Hospital. Dorothy retired from nursing while at the Orting Soldiers Home. She had a long a fulfilling career focused on geriatric nursing.

Earning her nursing degree led to lifelong friends and a career modeling how she lived her life. Always available to lend a hand, volunteer for local charities, and keeping her family close.  She was always willing to lend a hand on a project and was happiest being out of the limelight and doing the behind the scenes work.  She is preceded in death by her husband Al Porter and survived by son Mark Thomas (Allyson) and daughters Lisa Wilson (Randy) Kris Maas (Troy) and Sue Porter. As well as her grandchildren who she loved beyond measure: Drew, Katelyn, MichaelAnn, McKenna, AJ, & Marin.

Her good nature and easy acceptance of all around her will be missed. Mom never met a stranger and she taught us so well that family is not just the family you are born into but that our homes and our hearts should be open to inviting others in. It is our family's honor to carry this forward.

Many thanks to Dr Bansal and the nursing and support staff at Multicare Regional Cancer Center.  You made us feel like family and walked by our side and provided us hope and encouragement.  We will not forget your kindness.
