Frances Manning

Obituary of Frances Ella Manning

Frances (Fran) Ella Manning, 89, passed peacefully on September 9, 2021. Her fun loving and outgoing personality will truly be missed.

It is hard to express what a special lady Fran was, but to give you some perspective, all her children's friends considered her their "second Mom". All of Fran's children are loving, caring and fun- all traits that definitely came from her. She always taught her children and grandchildren to do the right thing and to speak up for what they believe in. Fran enjoyed crocheting, baking, and having fun with her family and friends. She could strike up a conversation with anyone, loved to laugh, and bake homemade pies (which were the best)!

Fran was born in Pierre, South Dakota on March 24, 1932, to Daniel and Dorothy Schenk. In 1939 the family moved to Sumner, WA where she and her seven siblings helped with all the daily chores associated with the family farm.

Fran graduated Sumner High School in 1950 and in July 1951 married William (Wes) Manning Jr. (deceased). She was a devoted wife and mother. They had three children Harold, Barbara and Shirley and lived in the same home in the Edgewood area for over 60 years.

Fran worked in the Federal Way School District and at a physician’s office in Sumner for several years. She and Wes were members of the Elks Camper Club where they made many close friends and enjoyed years of camping trips with them around the Northwest. Fran also spent her free time volunteering for the Federal Way Senior Center where she enjoyed helping local families at the food bank, picking up donated food and other activities.

Fran is survived by her three children Harold (RoseMarie), Barbara, and Shirley (Richard), granddaughters Andrea (Billy) and Dyan (Hamilton), great grandchildren Drew, Mason, Kaden & Taumalae, sister Marie, brother Leon and numerous nieces and nephews.
