REMEMBERING IMMA
Kent & Ginny Riffey
Grass Valley, CA
We first met Imma in 1968 in Oak Harbor, WA. Don and Kent were in the Navy and had known each other in Vietnam in 1966 and 67. After that they each went to the Naval Air Station at Whidbey Island, WA. We ended up living a block apart in the town of Oak Harbor. Our families became good friends very soon. Kent and Don fished together when they could. And the four of us would often get together in our free evenings and have dinner together. They were wonderful friends and a wonderful couple. On rare occasion we would spend a weekend in Seattle and have a good time. On one such occasion while we were in Seattle, Ginny got word that her dad in New York was critically ill and not expected to last very long. Easter was fast approaching and Ginny had been making Easter dresses for our two girls, ages 5 and 3, but they were not finished and Ginny had to leave right away and would be gone through Easter. So Imma stepped up right away and said she had always wanted to sew for little girls, but since they had all boys she had never been able to do that. She insisted that Ginny give her the material, etc and let her finish the dresses. She did a wonderful job and saved the day for us!! That’s the kind of friend Imma Keith was!! The next year we transferred to the East Coast and our dog could not travel at all without getting car sick. Imma and Don came to the rescue and said they would take our dog,Tippy. It was a perfect match. The mark of wonderful friends are those who volunteer to adopt your dog when you move away! Then, three years later we moved to the Seabee Base in Gulfport, MS. And guess who were our neighbors again: Don, Imma, Tony, Donald (Vince as we knew him), David AND Tippy! We picked right up where we had left off in Oak Harbor three years earlier, except Tippy would not leave his Keith family!!
We could go on and on because we have so many super memories of the entire beautiful family. We missed Don after he died and will surely miss Imma as much. Rest in peace Imma. We love you!
