Obituary of Steven Roe Steffy

Steven Roe Steffy was born on May 2, 1955 in San Bernardino, CA to parents Leon and Laurel Steffy, the middle sibling to 5 children. With his father a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force, military life brought them to live in many states including Texas, Indiana, Nebraska and California.

At the age of 14, Steve gave his heart to the Lord and committed his musical talents to sharing God’s love through Children of the Light, a Christian band that started in 1969 with a few of his close friends. Children of the Light was the first band to record for Sparrow Records and they performed concerts all over the country for 9 years. Steve had a love for songwriting, singing and playing the acoustic and pedal steel guitar. After years of touring, God called Steve and his family to the Pacific Northwest to pursue pastoral ministry full time.

Steve was a loving, kind, funny, wise and intelligent husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother and friend. You would often find him recording in his music room, enjoying a steak dinner on the deck or playing a leisurely game of disc golf. For the past 25 years, Steve made Auburn, Washington his home and spent the last 15 years working for the Auburn School District.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Leon Steffy, his mother, Laurel Steffy and his daughter, Hannah Steffy.  He went home to be with Jesus on August 23, 2020, at home surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 20 years, Deonna, and her children Drew (Autumn) Klistoff and LeAndra Klistoff; his daughters Sarah (Tim) Lidstrom and Audra (Chris) Thurman; his 7 grandchildren- Blake, Connor, Ella, Justus, Judah, Isabella and Antonella; his siblings- Avi, Mark, Linda and Lolly, Sue Berg (Duane) and several nieces and nephews.

One of Steve’s favorite Bible verses is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all this through him who gives me strength.” It was evident in his last days, through the posture of his heart, that the strength and peace of Jesus carried him to his final resting place. Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life.
