Obituary of Elmer Emil Kern

Elmer Emil Kern passed away peacefully on April 20th, 2020 at the age of 82. 

 

Elmer was born in Gackle, North Dakota on July 2nd, 1937 to Christof and Ella Kern. He enlisted in the Army Reserve at the age of 19 for six years. He was a devoted husband and married Darlene “Debby” Kern on October 25th, 1957. They then moved to Auburn, Washington and Elmer worked for the City of Auburn Parks Department for 30 years, retiring in 1994. During this time, Elmer and Debby were active members of the Zion Lutheran Church. Elmer enjoyed traveling, camping, listening to country music, attending Mariner’s games, playing golf, fishing, and hunting.

 

Elmer is survived by his wife of 62 years, Debby Kern. His children, Judi Rees (husband Kent), Dale Kern (wife Sue), Gary Kern (wife Stacie) , and Jerry Kern (wife Joni); his brother, Carl “Bud” Kern (wife Sandi); and his grandchildren Kevin, Marty, Amanda, Kyle, Lauren Elizabeth, Ryan, Makenzie, Lauren Chantelle, and Danielle; and his great grandchildren, Jenna, Jakob and Hayes. He will be deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends. Elmer will be forever remembered for his loving spirit and his warm smile.
