Obituary of Michel Douglas Hoefferle

On Thursday, April 9, 2020, we lost a wonderful man, husband, father, grandfather, friend and mentor.  We take comfort in knowing that Mike has been welcomed into the loving arms of his daughter, Deborah Gayle, who passed away 32 years ago.

Michel (Mike) was born in Salina, KS on January 15, 1944, to Donald and Margie Hoefferle and was the older brother to Dennis, Karen, Diane and Gene.  Mike grew up in Chicago, Illinois.  He enlisted in the military in 1964 and married his high school sweetheart, Sandra (Sandy) Calvert in 1965.  They moved to Washington State in 1978.  Mike considered Sumner, WA his home.

His spirit lives on in his wife of 54 years, Sandra (Sandy), daughters Lisa, Michele and Quinn, son-in-laws Brian, Greg and C.J., and grandchildren Payton, Nathan, Harper, Grant, Addison and Charlie June.

Mike was a kind man with a memorable smile, a kind spirit, and a profound love for his family. He had a talent for gardening, a fondness for all birds, a taste for delicious coffee (it’s Seattle of course), an appreciation of good food and wine, a love/hate relationship with the Mariners and a love/love relationship with the Seahawks.  He never went a Blue Friday without his #3 jersey.

Our hearts are broken with the loss of this selfless man, husband, father and grandfather.  He will be deeply, deeply missed and always remembered.

We look forward to celebrating Mike’s life with friends and family at a later date.

In lieu of gifts, donations to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
