Each time we’d meet Jerry’s first words were always, “Well how is Grant today?” He was the neighbor any of us would want to have. A friend, someone with advice, and always ready to lend a hand. I well remember the times we cleared blackberries from the path between our houses.
We, along with our brides had many enjoyable dinners together. “Where are we going? What do we feel we’d like? It was always an adventure in finding new restaurants or returning the ones we’d enjoyed earlier.
Jerry, you were a good friend and a pleasure to have known.

Jerry Santman was my good friend.
I first met Jerry when I transferred from Weyerhaeuser R&D to the Newsprint/ Bleached Paperboard businesses in 1988.
Jerry took on a role as mentor for me, and helped me learn about running a large business in large company like Weyerhaeuser. This turned out to be a key development opportunity in my career. For the experience and friendship Jerry provided, I am very grateful.
I was fortunate to work with Jerry on a number of projects as well as the routine business operations.
We made many road trips to Longview together and got to know each other very well.
Jerry was the kind of person I had always strived to be:
1. Knowledgeable about his job
2. Respected by his peers, bosses and subordinates
3. Honest and willing to say what he thought, no matter what the subject, but always in a thoughtful and caring way
4. Fun to be around with a great sense of humor and a strong work ethic
I am fortunate to have known Jerry, and I will miss his smile and caring humor!

From Stan Pitlo
Jerry was the best brother in law a guy could have. He never met a stranger, and was outgoing and helpful to everyone. A GREAT GUY!!
One of my fondest memories of Jerry was when he and my sister Linda were at Washington State when I was there too. My roommates and I knew the exact day when Linda, who was working, got paid and we invited ourselves to the Santman house for a free dinner. Jerry always met us with a smile and a cold one and welcomed us as if he actually invited us. It meant a lot to starving, struggling college boys and as Jerry would tell us, "now you have money for a pitcher of beer at the Down Under".
He was a great guy and will be missed.
God bless Jerry and his whole family.

Such sad news to hear about Jerry. My husband and I sat with you both at the Mark Morris 50 year reunion. We so enjoyed talking with both of you. Please accept our love and prayers to you and your family.
