Obituary of Lawrence Jacob Saum

Lawrence Jacob Saum “Jake” was born in Clackamas County, Oregon to Stephen & Gladys Saum on March 1, 1937. In 1959, Jake married Janice Lorraine Sarutzki and the lived near Seattle as Jake started his career in electronics at Boeing. Jake was drafted in 1960. After serving his time in the Army, Jake and Janice returned to Washington where they would raise their family.

Jake had a myriad of jobs including military, construction, worm growing/distribution and completing a career of 30 years at Boeing. Jake loved raising Rhinelander rabbits and was well known around the Puyallup Fair. He was the rabbit and cavy barn superintendent for a number of years.

Jake always had some type of a mini-farm, raising rabbits and other animals. He worked hard for his family and passed on his gift of understanding of machinery/how things worked and construction to his boys, Kyle and Aaron. Jake was quite proud of the men that his boys had become. He was also proud to be called “poppa” by his two grandsons, Jaycob and Tyler. Jake enjoyed watching Jaycob play with his band in many venues and went to as many hockey games as he could (when he wasn’t going to freeze in the cold).

Jake & Janice loved to travel, they ended up spending many years traveling in a 5th wheel, being in the warm weather during the winter was their favorite. They even took a trip to England to spend time with dear friends, Kate & Martin.

Janice’s death preceded Jake’s, now they are together. Per Jake’s wishes, there will not be a service, he enjoyed seeing everyone at Jan’s service and felt that was the perfect time to enjoy visiting with friends and family.
