Janet McLeod

Obituary of Janet Lee McLeod

Janet Lee McLeod, 82, of Sumner, Wash., died peacefully on November 6, 2019 surrounded by family and friends. Janet was born October 14, 1937 at Tacoma General Hospital to Ray and Frances Bock of Sumner, Wash. Janet grew up in Sumner across the street from Grandpa’s berry fields, now the site of Sumner High School. Eventually, Janet and her sister Joann moved with their parents to the “red brick house” on Wood Avenue. She lived there until she married. Janet was a sports fanatic, which she learned by hanging out with her dad. She was a true valley girl. She was selected as a Daffodil Princess two times and even worked at the local Dairy Freeze. She graduated from Sumner High School in 1955.

She married Douglas McLeod shortly after high school and they raised four children: Kevin (Kim), Kraig (Ann Marie), Mike (Lauri), and Kelli (Scott). Janet was a loving grandmother to 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.

Janet was the epitome of graciousness, always making everyone feel welcome. She applied these considerable talents to her work in the tourism industry, taking guests on tours of Seattle, hosting out-of-towners from around the Puget Sound region, and hauling luggage back and forth from the airport, among many other tasks. She always did so with a smile, excited to engage in conversation and share her knowledge of the area. She loved all sports teams and attended as many of her grandchildren’s games as possible. She loved the Huskies, Seahawks, and Mariners. Janet also enjoyed lifelong friendships. Together, she and her lady friends walked, played bridge, traveled, shopped, visited, and enjoyed many lunches and happy hours. Boating was another favorite past time, which she enjoyed on Lake Tapps, Lake Washington, and all over the Puget Sound. Finally, Janet and Mickey Mouse were the best of friends. She loved her trips to the various Disney parks through the years with cousin Jayne and, most recently, with the McLeod girls, where she visited with Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, Donald and Daisy. Janet will forever be remembered as Daisy to us, and as Grandma Janet to the rest of the world.
