Obituary of Jennifer Slade

Jennifer Slade, at the age of 73, lost her battle with cancer, and slipped peacefully into her eternal slumber. She was at home with Monty, her devoted husband, attending so sweetly to her when she passed Saturday, October 26, 2019.

Born August 11, 1946 to Preston Robert (Bob) and Jean Ricks in Tacoma, WA. Jennifer was a 1964 graduate of Puyallup High School, and 1988 Vocal Degree Graduate of Tacoma Community College.

Jennifer spent her life devoted to her faith, family, and service.

She was a life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Jennifer was a respected member of the congregation, serving many roles for the church. She enjoyed time serving as music director, spent 8 years singing in the stake choir, arranging music and playing the piano.

Jennifer was also involved in the Daughter of Utah Pioneers for over 40 years. She held many leadership positions. Loved going to the conventions held in Salt Lake City and being involved in the local Daughter of Utah Pioneers activities.

She enjoyed many years involved in the Boy Scouts. Earning herself the District award of Merit in 1994 and Wood badge graduate in 2010. Jennifer proudly served as the Eagle Scout Advancement Chairman and was the Cub Scout Day Camp Director.

Jennifer would often volunteer for Derby’s, Dutch Oven cooking classes, canning and “Aunt Jennie’s Summer Camp.”

Many remember her amazing cooking skills. Cooking and catering events for the church and families around her. She was an avid baker and enjoyed nothing more than spending time creating in the kitchen. Making our favorites – cookies, candies, confections and cakes.

She enjoyed crafting and giving. Making quilts, doing cross stitch, knitting hats for the needy, blankets for all the new babies, hats and scarves for the grandkids.

Jennifer loved to travel and go on adventures. She was fortunate enough to visit her many friends and family across the country and around the world.

Jennifer is survived by her loving husband Monty Slade and their children; Andrew Gee, Peter Gee, James Slade and Sarah Slade-Zaraski

She was also survived by:

Aunt Dee and Uncle Sherman Whitworth, Aunt Jayne Orth

Her sisters and brothers; Nancy and Dana Kehr, Susan and Curtis Farnsworth, Marilyn and Rodney Marecle, James and LeeAnn Ricks, Kathy Ricks, Jackie and Carlton Bird, Margaret and Darwin Spencer, Joel and Karyl Ricks, Robbie Tenney

Many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews too numerous to list here

Jennifer is welcomed to her heavenly home by her Sisters Ruth Everett and Shirley Lines, and her parents Robert Preston (Bob) and Jean Ricks.
