Obituary of John Lee Murphy

John L. Murphy, devoted husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 28, 2019, at Franciscan Hospice House in University Place, Washington. He was born on July 12, 1931, to Stephen Arther and Evelyn Gertrude (McLester) Murphy, in Fargo, North Dakota. Jack married his sweetheart, Annette Gallaher, on July 25, 1953 in Seattle Washington. Their marriage was solemnized in the LDS Los Angeles Temple, July 30, 1966 where they and their four children were sealed as a family. They enjoyed nearly 64 years together until Annette’s death in 2017. Jack and Annette lived in Seattle until they moved to Sumner, Washington in 1972. Jack served in the Washington Army National Guard for 42 years and retired at the rank of Colonel. He served in his church as Scoutmaster, teacher, Bishop, Stake President, Patriarch and Temple Sealer. Jack will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his children, Diana (Barry) Bosshart, Mary (Ken) Merrell, Stephen (Jeni) Murphy and Bill (Eva) Murphy; 24 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, July 8, 2019 at 1 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 512 Valley Avenue, Sumner, Washington, Bishop Chris Pierce conducting. Interment will be the following day at Tahoma National Cemetery.
