We couldn't have asked for a better dad and father-in-law. Our love for him will never die and he will live on in our hearts, forever. We have so many memories of spending time with him. Some of our favorite times were when Arlene and dad would go fishing with our family in eastern WA. He loved catching those fish and enjoyed seeing all of us having a good time. Once the wind came up suddenly and violently, when we were out in the boats, and it was pretty scary trying to get back to shore. Shane was very young then and riding in grandpa Mel and Arlene's boat. (Even the dog we had at that time had his tail between his legs!!) He kept saying "everything will be all right, grandpa, and it was, as we all made it safely back to shore. Also all of the holidays were spent together, and dad loved having all of his family there with him. We especially liked it when dad would cook a ham or make the gravy as both were excellent!! He was a special man and we loved him so much. Bye for now, dad, and thank you for giving us someone to look up too, and for being so kind and gentle to all of us. Thank you, Arlene, too, for taking such good care of him thru the years when he needed it most. Love you dad, we miss you!!! Donnie and Joyce

Dad loved his family. He very seldom missed a birthday celebration as that meant a chance to catch up on the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great grand children.
One of our family favorites was Easter Sunday. We would go to mass in the morning and then to Dad’s in the afternoon for lunch and an Easter egg hunt. The tradition started when Dad and Arlene were living at Lake Lawrence in Yelm; our children were in preschool and kindergarten and it continued after Dad moved to Puyallup and our kids were in high school and college. I think they enjoyed it as much in college as in Kindergarten.
Dad was also a very loving and caring husband. Arlene returned that love and care this summer as Dad was in and out of the hospital and the last three weeks in a nursing home. Arlene would be there in the morning to help him with breakfast and in the evening to kiss him goodnight. She would take a couple of hours off in the afternoon to run errands.
Thank you, Arlene, for your loving care. We are all going to miss Dad.

We are so sorry to hear of Melvin's passing. We will always remember him as such a jovial person; a good looking man who always looked so neat. I am honored to have had him as my Uncle and Godfather.
You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
